Everything that goes
into a Journey Book.
A Journey Book isn’t a generic photo book with your pictures dropped in. It’s built around where you went — the routes, the places, and the maps that hold a trip together.
The map is the whole point.
Real, hand-drawn maps
Every chapter opens on a map drawn from real GIS data in the KR Maps style — the same craft as our wall maps, printed at 300 DPI.
Your actual route
The path you traveled is traced point-to-point across the page, so the book tells the where of the trip, not just the what.
Composed, then yours
Chapters, captions, and layout are drafted automatically from your trip — then every word and page is yours to edit.

Getting started
How do I make a Journey Book?
Start from the web studio or the KR Maps Journeys app and pick a trip. We compose a full book — maps, chapters, captions — then you rearrange, rewrite, and refine it. When it looks right, choose a binding and order.
Do I need the Journeys app?
No. You can build a book entirely in the web studio. The app is a free, optional companion that gathers your travel photos and matches them to places — handy, but never required.
Is it free to try?
Yes. Building and previewing your whole book is free — you only pay when you place a print order.
How long does it take to make one?
Because the first draft is composed for you, most people have a finished book in well under an hour — the time goes into choosing favorites and writing a few captions, not fighting with layout.
The book & formats
Hardcover or lay-flat — what’s the difference?
Hardcover is a classic case-bound book — durable and giftable. Lay-flat uses thick, rigid pages that open completely flat, so a photo or map can run seamlessly across the whole spread. Lay-flat is the premium option; hardcover is the everyday keepsake.
How big is the book?
A4 landscape — about 11.7 × 8.3 inches — a generous, wall-map-worthy canvas for your photos and routes.
How many pages can it have?
Up to 104 pages, priced in three tiers (up to 40, 72, or 104). That’s plenty for a big multi-stop trip or a full year of adventures.
What paper and print quality?
200 gsm archival satin paper, printed at 300 DPI with rich, fade-resistant color. The same standard we hold our wall maps to.
Editing & personalization
Can I edit the text, captions, and order?
Yes — everything. Rewrite the intro, edit every caption, add or remove photos, and rearrange chapters and pages until the story reads the way you remember it.
Can I change the maps?
Your route is drawn automatically from where you traveled. You can adjust how each map is framed and zoomed so the part of the journey you care about takes center stage.
Can I combine several trips into one book?
Yes. Bring in a single journey or a whole multi-stop trip — each leg becomes its own chapter with its own map.
Photos & privacy
Where are my photos while I build?
On your own device. Your photos stay local while you build — nothing is uploaded until you place an order (or explicitly choose to save a draft to the cloud).
Do you or any AI look at my photos?
No. Your photos are never viewed by us or any AI, and are permanently deleted shortly after your book is delivered. See our privacy promise.
What happens to my files after I order?
Your print file is held only long enough for our print partner to produce and ship your book, then deleted. If you saved a cloud draft, it’s kept for 30 days from your last edit — opening or re-saving resets the clock — and then removed automatically.
Ordering, shipping & after
How much does a book cost?
Hardcover starts at $38.95 and lay-flat at $69.95, by size. See the full breakdown on the Pricing page.
Is shipping free? How long does it take?
Standard U.S. shipping is free. Books are printed to order, so allow time for production plus transit.
What if my book arrives damaged?
