Journeys Terms of Use

Last updated: September 28, 2026. These terms apply to version 2.0 of the app and later.

These terms are an agreement between you and KR Maps ("we", "us") about the KR Maps Journeys app ("the app"). By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Our Journeys Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your information, and is part of these terms.

1. The app

KR Maps Journeys is free. It reads the date and place on your photos to find the trips you've taken and shows them on a map, including the artwork of your KR Maps print. It can also read the pins in a photo of your wall map, send journeys to other people, and start a printed travel book in our book studio. We may add, change or remove features over time.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you. Ordering a printed book is done on krmaps.com and requires you to be old enough to make a purchase where you live.

3. Your print and its QR code

Every KR Maps print carries a QR code. Scanning it in the app adds that print's artwork to the app, so your pins can sit on the same map as the one on your wall. The code is for the owner of the print and their household. Please don't publish, share or sell codes or links to them. We may update a print's artwork in the app, and the app's other features work without a print.

4. Your photos and writing

• They stay yours. You keep every right to your photos, captions, notes and the other things you create in the app. We don't claim ownership of them.
• What you send us. When you send photos of your wall map to our pin reader, or send a journey to the book studio, you give us permission to store, process, lay out, render and print that material, only to read your pins or to make, print and ship your book, and for no other purpose. That permission ends when the material is deleted as the Privacy Policy describes.
• Your responsibility. Only send, share or print photos and words you have the right to use, including photos of other people. Don't use the app for anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
• Keep your own copies. Your journeys are stored on your phone. We don't keep a copy, so we can't restore them if your phone is lost or the app is deleted. Your photos themselves stay in your phone's library and are never changed by the app.

5. What leaves your phone

Most of the app runs on your phone. Some things need the internet: looking up place names (locations only, never photos), loading map images, reading the pins in photos of your wall map, and sending photos to the book studio. The last two happen only when you choose. The Privacy Policy lists each one, who receives it and how long it's kept.

6. Travel books

When you send a journey to the book studio, copies of the photos you chose are uploaded so you can design your book in your browser on krmaps.com. Unfinished books are deleted automatically, as the Privacy Policy describes. Ordering, payment, shipping, returns and refunds are handled on krmaps.com under our website's Terms of Service and policies. Where those and these terms differ about an order, the website's terms apply. Each book is made to order from exactly what you submit, so please check it carefully before you order.

7. Sending journeys to other people

You can send journeys, photos included, straight to another phone on the same Wi-Fi, or as a file through your phone's share sheet. What you send becomes a copy on the other person's phone, under its owner's control, and we can't take it back. Only send to people you trust, and only send photos you have the right to share.

8. Maps and place names

The app shows information from other providers: the street map from Mapbox (© Mapbox, © OpenStreetMap contributors), place names from Apple or Google, OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License) and Wikipedia. This information may be incomplete or wrong. Trips, dates, distances, place names and pins the app works out are our best reading of your photos and should not be relied on for navigation, safety, legal or financial decisions. Map imagery in the app, and in any book you order, is for your personal use; please don't extract, resell or redistribute it.

9. Fair use of the app and our services

Please don't:

• use the app for anything unlawful or harmful;
• copy, modify or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
• interfere with, overload or get around the limits of our services, including the pin reader and the book studio, or use scripts or other automated means to reach them;
• take the app's keys or tokens out of the app, or use them outside it.

We may limit or stop access to our services for an install that breaks these rules.

10. Our property

The app, its design and code, the artwork of our prints and the KR Maps name and logo belong to KR Maps and are protected by law. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app on phones you own or control, as these terms and your app store's rules allow. Everything not expressly granted is reserved.

11. Changes and ending

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you in the app or in its store listing. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms. We may change, suspend or end the app or any of its services (such as the pin reader or the book studio). You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it; Settings > Erase everything removes what it stored on your phone.

12. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise the app or our services will always be available, secure or free of errors. Printed books are physical products: color and trimming can vary slightly from what you see on a screen.

13. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, KR Maps is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, content or profits, arising from the app or these terms. Our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to US $50, and for a book order to the amount you paid for it. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

15. If you got the app from the App Store or Google Play

Apple. If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store:

• These terms are between you and KR Maps only, not Apple. KR Maps, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
• Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
• Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are KR Maps' responsibility, to the extent it can't be disclaimed.
• KR Maps, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation.
• If a third party claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, KR Maps, not Apple, is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
• You represent that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your wireless data service agreement.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them Apple will have the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Google Play. If you downloaded the app from Google Play, Google Play's terms of service also apply to your use of Google Play. KR Maps, not Google, is responsible for the app.
